c&c Launches Pilot Project in Trifinio!

Esquipulas, Guatemala, October 30, 2012 - c&c in collaboration with the Tri-national Commission for the Trifinio Plan (CTPT) launched their local activities with a kickoff event in Hotel Gran Chortí, Esquipulas (Guatemala), to inaugurate their pilot project in the Trifinio region of Central America.

After a thorough baseline analysis of the local opportunities and risks concerning coffee production and climate change, this event brought together relevant stakeholders to present first findings, evaluate the current state of climate change adaptation and to provide a platform for discussion about the c&c initiative in the region.

The event was a success with almost 50 participants and the active contribution of farmers groups from Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador, as well as a number of key regional actors, including Plan Trifinio, Rainforest Alliance, CATIE, Sertinsa and INCAE Business School.  A recurring theme in all presentations was the gravity of current and foreseen effects of climate change on coffee production in the region and emphasized the enthusiasm of all parties at the prospect of establishing efficient adaptation practices.  The event concluded on a positive note, with several institutions eager to coordinate efforts with c&c to enhance the resilience of farmer´s productions systems to climate change.
