c&c workshop series featured in EPAMIG’s Informe Agropecuário

Hamburg, November 28th, 2013 - In the recent special edition of their Informe Agropecuário, which focused on the events and topics discussed during the Semana Internacional do Café in Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais, Brazil, EPAMIG (Empresa de Pesquisa Agropecuária de Minas Gerais), one of the countries’ most important research institutions  published an article on our c&c workshop series in Belo Horizonte.

Abstract: During the Semana Internacional do Café, the initiative for coffee & climate  (c&c), together with EPAMIG, facilitated a workshop series on coffee and climate change adaptation. Attracting the attention of coffee sector representatives present in Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais, Brazil, the workshop highlighted risks for production systems and the livelihood of millions of smallholder coffee farmers caused by changing climatic conditions. At the centre of discussion were tools and methodologies for strengthening the resiliences of production systems as well as the livelihoods and food security of farming families. The long term vision of c&c is to enable all coffee-farming families worldwide to effectively respond to climate change. Therefore, c&c aims to significantly broaden its reach, expand its network and to become the leading sector initiative for climate change adaptation. As a key result of the workshop sessions, strong emphasis was put on the integral importance of cooperation among all actors in the coffee value chain and beyond.

Key words: climate change; coffee value chain; coffee producers; food security; initiative for coffee & climate (c&c); resilient production systems.
